CBD, scientifically know as Cannabidiol is a natural occurring chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. This non-psychoactive compound has been shown to have significant health, wellness, and beauty applications.
The human body naturally manufactures its own cannabinoids similar to CBD, called endocannabinoids. They work within the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to regulate just about everything in the body including excretion of hormones, mood, response to stress, appetite, and pain management. If any of these normal functions become unbalanced, the body will synthesize, or combine, the cannabinoids it needs to restore balance throughout the body.
Research has shown that the ECS system will also recognize and respond to cannabinoids from external sources, including CBD and could be useful in treating a variety of medical ailments, making it an all natural, safe alternative treatment.
How CBD works in the body:
The human endocannabinoid system is made up of a network of CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors spread throughout our entire body control some of the body’s most vital functions, including the immune system, memory appetite, sleep pattern, mood, and pain sensation.
- CB1 receptors can be found in the brain, nervous system, and many other parts of the body.
- CB2 receptors are located throughout the body and are associated with the immune system.
- CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of the primary cannabinoids in hemp. It interacts with the body’s CB1 and CB2 receptors producing therapeutic benefits without having a euphoric or dysphoric effect.
